Everyone at Hewison Aviation is excited for the summer season of flying this year. But before we get fully into the swing of things this summer we wanted to showcase some of our wonderful graduating trainees from earlier this spring. In this newsletter we are very proud to present three different kinds of graduations that occur under the Hewison banner.

David Hawley, a retired navy pilot, accomplished several milestones in aviation this spring. After 40 years away from the flight controls David completed his first flight review since leaving the armed forces. This completion means he is now fully reinstated and certified to roam the skies once more after nearly half a century away. On top of that, David also went on to earn his tailwheel endorsement, and is primed to go on to brand new flying adventures in a different type of machine. David turned 70 this past May and is living proof that it is never too late to learn something new.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Matthew Garrabrant earned his private pilot’s license on June 3rd at only 21 years of age. Matthew has been training out of Griffiss International Airport KRME since February of 2024 and is pictured above receiving his certificate. “I’m really relieved to finally have my certificate, it is a lot of hard work and I can finally fly all on my own.”

Seniors at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute also received commendations thanks in part to Hewison mentorship. For several months Chris and Maura Hewsion have been mentoring a team of seven engineering students at RPI in preparation for their senior capstone project. On May 2nd, that team presented their project to senior faculty at RPI and received the Design Lab at Rensselaer Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement. The whole community at Hewison Aviation is proud to honor Andrew Bank, Charlie Clarke, Anthony DiFusco, Jameson Giannattasio, Donggyu Kim, Sean Regan, and Emma Soto for their achievements, along with project engineer Aren Paster and chief engineer James Rees.

If you are looking to start your aviation journey with Hewison Aviation we heartily recommend an introductory flight. If you are looking for an engineering program to get you into the field of aeronautics, check out the RPI aerospace program. And if you are looking to get started on a new license or rating Hewison Aviation is always happy to help.
